Papatuanuku is often portrayed as the First Mother energy, she holds the creativity and reproductive powers in her hands. This is a self directed painting based on the teachings of Intentional Creativity, honouring Papatuanuku from my own world view as a Maori woman. A genealogy approach to understand and make sense of the world often lays in creation stories; looking back at the past, to make sense of the present and to plan for the future. Papatuanuku, First Mother, gave rise to many energies, one being Tane Mahuta, god of forests and trees, usually considered male, however stories also tell us these creative energies can often embody both male and female in mutual interactions to achieve balance and harmony (Forster 2019)
